Use a spring-loaded tape at about four ounces of tension. Place it horizontally at the umbilicus and read after a normal exhale. Use the three closest measurements, average them, and round down to the nearest half inch. Divide waist by height using the same units, then truncate to two decimals. The Space Force standard is less than 0.55.

How to calculate Space Force WHtR
- Record height in inches to the nearest half inch, or enter the centimeter equivalent for automatic conversion.
- Using a spring-loaded tape at about four ounces of tension, take three waist measurements at the umbilicus with the tape horizontal and record each at the end of a normal exhale.
- Average the three closest measurements, round down to the nearest 0.50 inch, divide by height in like units, and truncate the WHtR to two decimal places.
- Compare the reported ratio with less than 0.55.
