How to perform Navy WHtR measurements correctly

Official measurements are taken by trained CFL or ACFL personnel. Record height without shoes. Measure bare skin at the umbilicus with the tape parallel to the deck, snug without compressing tissue, after a normal exhale. Take two readings rounded down to the nearest half inch. If they differ by more than one inch, take a third and use the two closest. Divide waist by height and truncate to four decimals. A result of 0.5499 or less is within Step 1.

How to calculate Navy WHtR

Record height in inches to the nearest half inch, or enter the centimeter equivalent for automatic conversion.
Measure the waist twice at the umbilicus on bare skin, round each reading down to the nearest 0.50 inch, and take a third reading only if the first two differ by more than one inch.
Average the two readings, or the two closest if a third reading is required. Round the average down to the nearest 0.50 inch, divide by height, and truncate the ratio to four decimal places.
Compare the reported ratio with 0.5499 or less.

What happens next?

Use NAVPERS 6110/10 and current Navy guidance for official recording and any required Step 2 body composition calculation. A reported WHtR of 0.5500 or greater requires the Navy Body Composition Calculation in Step 2.
