Use a self-tensioning tape and stand naturally with arms relaxed. Place the tape at the navel, horizontal and level with the floor. Keep it snug without compressing tissue and read after a normal exhale. Record two measurements, use the lower reading, and round down to the nearest half inch. Divide waist by height. The current public Marine Corps standard used here is 0.52 or less.

How to calculate Marine Corps WHtR
- Record height in inches to the nearest half inch, or enter the centimeter equivalent for automatic conversion.
- Measure the waist twice at the navel using a self-tensioning tape. Record the lower measurement rounded down to the nearest 0.50 inch.
- Divide the recorded waist measurement by height and compare the WHtR with the Marine Corps standard of 0.52 or less.
- Compare the reported ratio with less than or equal to 0.52.
What happens next?
