Official screening standard across Military Departments: WHtR must be less than 0.55. Values at 0.55 or above proceed to secondary body-fat assessment.

How to Measure the Waist (New Method)

  1. Measure at the midpoint between the lowest rib and the top of the hip bone (iliac crest).
  2. Stand upright, feet shoulder-width, abdomen relaxed, and arms at sides.
  3. Wrap tape horizontal to the floor; snug but not compressing skin.
  4. Take reading at normal exhale.
  5. Round down waist and height to the nearest 0.5 inch before calculating ratio.
