Record height to the nearest 0.50 inch.

Round each waist measurement down to the nearest 0.50 inch. Measurements 2 and 3 are optional.

Army WHtR method

  1. Record height to the nearest half inch.
  2. Measure the waist at the navel three times.
  3. Round each waist measurement down to the nearest half inch.
  4. Average the measurements to three decimal places.
  5. Divide average waist by height and disregard digits after the third decimal place.

Public Army screening rule: WHtR must be less than 0.55.
